Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re: Instance Terminated Problem
My first thought is that someone physically deleted the database files. This
would cause an error in the running processes. Not sure what the error 340 is.
Did the database files actually disappear? If so, check the history file (if
unix) of the Oracle user. This will show you commands issued by the Oracle user
- who should be the only user able to do this type of thing with the exception
of root!? I have never heard of an Oracle instance "disappearing" in my 16
years of working with Oracle. Unless this is a very strange situation, you may
have some sabatoge or very inexperienced person that caused this.
Interesting. Let us know what actually happened here.

Subject: Instance Terminated Problem
Hi,
I got up this morning only to find out that one of our 8.1.5 instances had mysteriously "gone away". Only trace of why the instance died are these 3 lines in the alert log in bdump.
Anybody got ideas what went wrong? Thanks.
