I have not tried the database but in 816 on win200 sqlplus worksheet accessing a db on Unix is very slow. My PC is a fairly powerful one (600 Mhz, 256 MB RAM). To compare I ran "select * from user_tables" under SYSTEM against a database:
sqlplus on Unix tooks 4 seconds sqlplus on Win2000 tooks 1 minute 20 secondssqlplus worksheet in Win2000 took 10 minutes
Oracle has done a poor job here (java stuff!).
With heading turned off ("set head off") the results as belows:
sqlplus on Unix took less than 2 seconds sqlplus on Win2000 took 6 secondssqlplus worksheet in Win2000 took 50 seconds
During the sqlplus/sqlplus worksheet run on Win2000, CPU is used up as well.

Subject: Slow 8.1.6 on win2000
Dear DBAs !
I've just installed 8.1.6 on win2000 and it runs VERY slow , eating up most of the CPU .
Is this a known issue ? What should i look at ?
TIA .
