Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE is not clean???
So, there I am, reading all about installing Oracle iFS. In the
"Pre-Installation Tasks" of the "Preparing for Installation" guide, it says:
"This backup should be taken with the database shut down cleanly. If you
use SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE or SHUTDOWN ABORT to force users off the system, be
sure to restart the database in restricted mode, and then shut it down with
normal priority."
Huh? Anyone that's running an Intelligent Agent knows you can't shutdown a database NORMAL with the agent running. And I always thought that SHUTDOWN NORMAL and SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE were both considered to be "clean" shutdowns, at least thruough v8.0.5, because no instance recovery is necessary upon restart.
Has this changed with 8i Release 2? Or did I not drink enough beer this weekend?
