I agree. The job of the DBA seems to be everything that everyone else
either doesn't want to do or doesn't have the ability to do. We get =
the
wonderful task of figuring out all of the things too hard for everyone =
else
to figure out.
But, I would much rather support developers than users. Users ask too =
many
stupid questions.

Subject: RE: Oracle DBA opening in Englewood, CO
There seems to be differing views here.
I would suggest that this is a very typical jd for many production =
DBA's. I
would go on to suggest that many DBA's are in deed jack of all trades =
(and
master of some, I would hope). I have been in roles where I sat on my =
DBA
throne and dictated to developers on how to optimise their code and I =
have
been in roles where I did everything from install and configure =
hardware to
wipe users bums. Your typical DBA does what's needed to get the job =
done.
And I would take a week supporting uses over a day supporting =
developers
anytime!

I've been an Oracle DBA for 1.5 years. For the last six months I've =
worked
as a Java developer, in addition to supporting Oracle databases (all
development). I'm at a crossroads here, trying to decide on a career =
path.
Is the job description below pretty typical for DBA work? The idea of
providing help desk support and end user support is enough to make me =
vomit.
That is just my personal preference.=20
