I agree.
I have been going through some of my (acquired) databases and revoking 'select any table' privilege from some 'power' users and 3rd party accounts. Some did not like it and there were many questions as to why all of a sudden I was doing it. When I explained (and demoed) to them the reasons for that, and created appropriate roles for their access, they were happy that we (as a team) addressed and plugged a possible security issue (from auditors' point of view). Next, I need to educate them again, on the 'remote_os_authent' issues, since we have that too...... We have started a DBA Web page on our intranet. We put out End User Oracle Tips that include SQL Tuning, CBO/RBO issues, what is listener and how it works and common TNS related problems etc. Some power users are also given the CSI numbers to browse Metalink as well, and many are now TechNet members. The frequency of 'stupid' questions has dramatically reduced. - Kirti
