Last year we started working with IFS to implement their ERP to replace this old application. A couple of weeks ago, everyone had enough of IFS and said thanks, but no thanks. The functionality was not there. The support here in the U.S. is inexperienced. And their Asia support is almost non-existent. When we first start working with IFS, the plan was to be completely moved over to the new application before 7.3.4 went off support, so I was safe. Now that we have to start back at square -2 (they left us in a hole with a new plant in Thailand). Now, there is no way we will get a new system in for all our implementations for a couple of years. We are still on Forms 3 because the group I transferred to last year bought the code for and old ERP system called Avalon a few years back and modified it to make end users temporarily happy and they did not keep it up with technology. Now, I get to fight to keep at least the database supported even if the application tools are not. -----Original Message----- From: Thomas L. Bruce,

You're going to find that the version of PL/SQL in Forms 3.0 is significantly different than the version in Oracle 8. I was maintaining a Forms 3 against RDBMS 7.3.4 at a major pharmaceutical firm in Indianapolis up until last September. Obviously, you have forms written that you want to keep. But to do that, you'll want to EXPERIMENT with creating packages in Oracle 8 that generate exceptions that can be trapped in Forms 3 (lots of luck).

Not to be argumentative, but only to prompt some serious thought:
Why does Kimball need to go to Oracle 8?
If Kimball sees the need to move to Oracle 8 then why are they still on Forms 3?

Where can I find a paper or directions on how to get a SQL*Forms, Version 3.0 application to run against an Oracle 8 database?
