Hi Gurus,

I'am a NT guy (I'm sorry) and now I have to install a oracle 8i on = Redhat
Linux 6.1. I do know nothing about Linux. I have installed a Linux = Server
(was easy). Then I got a document from oracle technet - Oracle8i install FAQ for Redhat Linux 6.1. http://technet.oracle.com/tech/linux/htdocs/install.pdf

I worked with this document step by step, but now I have two problems:

  1. the oracle installation guide says to set the SHMMAX parameter in shmparam.h. I found the entry in the shmparam.h file, but what value I = have to set. The original setting is 0x2000000. I have 128MB ram on this testmachine.
  2. The install.pdf says to modify .bash_profile. I modified the file = and then I wanted to start ./.bash_profile (user =3D oracle, groups = added=3Doinstall and dba). System says no privileges. What privileges I have to set for = the user oracle?

Any other hints for installing oracle 8.1.5 on linux are welcome.

TIA i. V. Volker Sch=F6n
