This is one of the "features" of Unix. Even if you delete the file, if another process is using the file Unix will not really delete it as long as it is being used.

Keep this in mind, it may come in handy.

I know someone that deleted a production database, then realized what he did. He got all the users out and did a full export of the database before shutting it down. He then recreated the database and imported everything back in.

Subject: i ReMoved the RBS datafile !!

List (AIX oracle 7.3.2) ,

trying to create a recovery scenario, i took cold backup of the datafile making my RBS tbs, then put the DB in archivelog mode, and did some inserting/deleting/ commiting/rollbacking etc....
then i ReMoved the datafile from the disk, but still i was abel to use all the rollback segments in that RBS !!!, i also tried invoking SMON an PMON from svrmgrl.. and tried alter system checkpoint, i also dropped all the OTHER rollback segs, but i was STILL able to do inserting/deleting !!!

finally i OFFLINE the rollback segs in the rbs (of the REMOVED dbfile) and only then the DB started returning errors....

why it did not take the DBFILE offline after my earlier attempts ??

Rahul
