A standby database will still have to be shut down and cloned to another
database before you can use it. Standby means just that. The database must
"Stand By" until it is needed. You might want to consider a product from
Quest Software called SharePlex which will capture archive logs from one
database and apply them selectively to another one. From what I hear, you
can replicate just the tables that you need.
