Hi Chris, thanks for your response.
Now why didn't I think of shutting down the db and restarting... it =
did the
trick and freed up all the space I was expecting. My own brilliance =
amazes me
sometimes.

This is one of those "it depends" answers. It should have showed =
up
immediately. However, when we have deleted some database files, there =
were
times it did not show up until the base is restarted and even the =
server
restarted at times. I am not sure what causes this, but when it has
happened, about 30% of the time it comes back in a while, about 60 % =
of the
time we get it back on a base restart and the remaining 10% we had to =
reboot
the unix box. HTH
