A good start would be to download Oracle, read the installation instructions, install it and take it from there.

You don't really need programming language for the, but you should know your way around your operating system of choice somewhat.

When it's installed start with some basic SQL tutorials.

Oracle run on Unix, Linux, Windows, VMS, zOS, OS/390, MVS, etc..... Wink

Most server installations I have worked with or seen were on Unix or Linux.

wow thanks.... another question: if i were to study oracle what are the major specializations that i could choose from? (eg. administration / programming?) i really don't have any idea... the main reason that i'm showing interest in oracle is that my friends who studied IT recommends this software, they said i could land a good job abroad if i were to be an expert in oracle.... so that's why i would really like to learn. sorry if i'm asking too much questions

What do you like? Administrating or programing? IT or project? Business view or IT one?

Have a look at these books, this will help you to choose:
Database Concepts
SQL Reference
Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals
PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
Read the Introduction chapter of each one.
