Split partitions in oracle 8.0.4.3 [message #292452]

Hi all ,
i already have tables wid range partitions .. i want to split my last partitions which has upperbound "MAXVLUE" partition ... my doubts are wheter splitting partitions will effect on
1. Global Indexes
2. LOcal INDEXES
3. Integrity Constraints
4. Procedures and Functions
5. Applications
6. Data Loss

P.S i m using TOAD 7.3.0.0 utility for splitting partitions ...

So many problems....
I doubt oracle 8.0.4.3 was ever certified on Solar 5.9.
IIRC, Solaris was at V5.7 when Oracle V8.0 was released.
If you say that Oracle had partitioning with V8.0, I'll believe you but I do not explicitly recall it.
Of course I am old & going senile, so it may be true.
I do believe that unless & until you can totally empty the MAXVALUES/HIGHVALUES partition you are stuck between a rock & a hard spot.

This is one of the prices you pay for not staying current.
Sooner or later you will pay the price for upgrading (or not).

Thanks for ur reply ..

even i have benn syaing them to upgrade but they don't want to ,
so eliminate that option ,

but can u please wid ma indexes , fuctions and procedures ...

or any other alternate solutions tahn splitting the table ... like creating new table then moving the table data into new one etc ...

Ok, upgrade is not an option.
So why are we having this discussion?
Just keep adding new records to the uppermost partition
& hope you retire before "they" pay the price for not upgrading.

Please read and follow OraFAQ Forum Guide, especially about IM speak.

Then Oracle documentation explains what happens when you split, you just have to find and read 8.0 doc.
