Database doesn't connect , SQLPlus doesn't start [message #277019]

Dear friends ,

Please urgently advice me about this problem ...
a few hours ago , our clients reported that they cannot run the application and the message is can not connect to database .
I tried to run sqlplus , but after pressing enter it do nothing , no error message , nothing at all , by ctrl+c again I have the linux prompt .
I thought its maybe an Oracle session overflown and tried to kill some of Ora user proccesses but didnt help .
I tried to DBSHUT but again it did nothing , just I can see a DBSHUT now in proccesses .
I tried to reboot the server , but as long as it cannot shut down the database it wont go for reboot .
I dont wanna use shutdown immediate in case of data loose .
Please write me back if I have to check anything , I'm not such a expert in Oracle .

Dear Michel

By DF command it shows me that /log space usage is 58% so this partition is not full , is there anything else to check ??
Advice me with detail please .
