Hi all!
I have Oracle 10.1.0.5 running on Solaris 9 SPARC.
The DB is about 500 Gbs.
We are restarting it every week, for cold backup. And after the backup we are gathering statistics.
All is fine, but:
sometime we have to restart the db, during the week (hardware change, e.t.c) after the restart the performance becomes very bad...
Some people said: "Upon restart, you should let your instance warm up first." But, the performance is bad, even 2 days after restart...
What should i do?

sunday night:
1. Taking cold backup
2. Gathering stats
All is OK. No performance problems.
But,
Sometime i have to schedule downtime, during the week to change the hardware or to change some DB parameters. And, after that restart i have problems.

But, when i have to change hardware or db parameter it becomes a real problem.
Because that db is our financial system.
Do you think it is normal (performance degradation after restart)? Or, you just don't want to answer my question?

Yes. No. Maybe. (Most likely yes, or maybe "blue") For a start, you haven't quantified the problem. It's like me telling my doctor "I don't feel as well today as I did yesterday" what exactly would you expect the doc to do with that info?
How about you give some useful info

I have oracle database - it works fine and I'm satisfied with the performance. I'm gathering the statistics every Sunday.
BUT, if i restart the database during the week - it becomes very slow.
Questions:
Why it becomes so slow after the restart?
How can i fix that?

OK, once again, I will compare the info that you have given, to a visit to the doctors.
I have a leg. Most of the time I'm quite happy with this leg. Sometimes when I jump up and down, the leg is a little bit wobbly. What medicine do I need?
Please read the sticky at the top of the forum list to help you ask a question that can actually be answered. (Based on the info that you have supplied the only advice that we can give you is not to restart your database.- just as all the doc would have been able to tell me was to NOt jump up and down)

Give me answer for below question.
1. which db parameter you modify so you need to restart oracle server ?
2. Why you gather statistics every week ?
3. Did you generate STATPACK/AWR report.
if not then please generate and post here TOP 5 TIMED EVENT.
