Hello..

Is there any graphical tool to make queries, browse schemas, program PL/SQL packages and all that basic matters? Something similar to SQLDeveloper provided by Oracle. The problem with this tool is that only works with Oracle 9.2 and later. I have verion 8.

A tool I have tested is a software called TORA but it has a lot of problems, for example, screen refresh is very bad and sometimes it hangs, so I am looking for something better.

Thanks
Jaime

There is a freeware version of TOAD available.

Here are the key limitations in the freeware product:

  • Allows only two concurrent database sessions
  • Save Data limited to first 100 rows only
  • 60 day expiration date
  • Only one active DB session per client
  • Does not permit multiple Toads to run (lacks option)
  • Nag screen upon startup with commercial message
  • Disabled features shown but grayed out (i.e. inactive)
  • SQL Modeler removed

We are looking for something that doesn't expire and that allow to save more than 100 rows.

The 'Save Data' requirement makes me think you have a specific use in mind rather than a generic evelopment tool.

Are any of these any use?

There is a common requirement from users. Retrieve some data from the database and export them to Excel. Generally data retrieved is more than 100 rows.

One solution may be decompose the query in subqueries, but this is impractical.

Why can you not use either a SQL*Plus script spooling to a local file, or UTL_File writing to the server to extract the data?

For productivity reasons. This is a very recurring action.

SQL plus is the last choice to use.

SQL*Plus may be the last choice, but it's the last choice on a very short list at the moment.

Do your users need to execute ad-hoc queries, or are there a well defined set of queries with varying parameters?
