Generating STATISTICS- Frequently generating STATISTICS,is good or bad ?Will it take long time to complete if tables have more records ?
I have never got a chance to work on this scenario, Can some one please tell me some scenarios where you had to generate statistics and how long it took to complete.Please show some light

we have 8i,9i nd 10g.
my idea is to understand some scenarios in production environment ;like.... do you have 'Automatic Statistics Gathering' enabled? or how often u run statistics ...?
or do you prefer to run through DBMS job or through crontab ,etc...
