Any familiarity with this error and what causes it? Thanks,

I'm not as interested in that question as I am in this one: what would the TNSNAMES.ora and LISTENER.ora files look like in 9i Rel 2, if Data Replication would take place on one network (using one set of IP addresses), and user/application access was to take place on another set of IP addresses?

I'm thinking each network would have it's own pair of Domain Names:

Network 1:
Primary (100.1.1.1)
Standby (100.1.1.2)

Network 2:
Primary_rep (101.1.1.1) # connected to the same "box" as Primary
Standby_rep (101.1.1.2) # connected to the same "box" as Standby

Complex?

Yes. Figured out that the Standby Database can listen on the private IP (transport log), and doesn't have to worry about the other because nobody accesses the Standby Database.

Now, when I add ANOTHER standby database on that box, it's going to get interesting.
