Hi Taj,
I've done dataguard configuration at remote site. Archives are shipping fine. But when i went to try for Switchover, am getting NOT ALLOWED under SWITCHOVER_STATUS in V$DATABASE in STANDBY DATABASE. Can u please tell me reason behind this.

Both the machine's OS is RHEL AS4 U3,and db is Oracle 9.2.0.8

my pfile in Standby is as follows...............

background_dump_dest='/oradata3/standby/bdump'
compatible='9.2.0.8'
control_files='/oradata3/standby/control/stdby1.ctl'
db_block_size=4096
db_cache_size=50m
db_name='ravi'
java_pool_size=60m
large_pool_size=10m
log_archive_start=true
parallel_automatic_tuning=true
pga_aggregate_target=50m
remote_login_passwordfile='exclusive'
service_names='ravi.com'
shared_pool_size=175m
undo_management='auto'
undo_tablespace='undotbs'
user_dump_dest='/oradata3/standby/udump'
fal_client=con_primary
fal_server=con_standby
standby_file_management=AUTO
remote_archive_enable=true
db_file_name_convert=('/home/oracle9i/database/data/','/oradata3/standby/data/')
db_file_name_convert=('home/oracle9i/','/oradata3/standby/data/')
log_file_name_convert=('/home/oracle9i/database/redo/','/oradata3/standby/redo/')
standby_archive_dest='/oradata3/standby/sarch/'
log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=/oradata3/standby/arch/'
LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2='SERVICE=con_standby'
LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2=enable
log_archive_dest_state_1=enable

Please reply ,

Have you followed the process outlined in Role Transitions Involving Physical Standby Databases?
