Hi Friends,

I try to install oracle 10 in suse linux 9.3. I got face some

error. see.

I ignored this error message on my system and said "Yes" to continue.

But if you want to fix it and get rid of this error message, ensure the following RPMS are installed:

rpm -q XFree86 xf86tools cabextract libpng libjpeg XFree86-Mesa

Example for installing these packages on SLES-9 (packages can be found on the 2nd CD):

su - root
rpm -Uvh XFree86-4.3.99.902-43.22.i586.rpm \

This my new problem. how to add swap space space ? my pc ram size 1 GB and total available size is 30 GB.

Hi,

Add SWAP SPACE is NECCESSARY.#we have two option 1.swap partition 2.swap file
#On my example i am choose second option for increase swap space.

ADD SWAP FILE
1.Determine the size of the new swap file and multiple by 1024 to determine the block size. For example, the block size of a 64 MB swap file is 65536.
count being equal to the desired block size:

linux@oracle]# dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1024 count=65536
linux@oracle]# mkswap /swapfile #setup swap file.
linux@oracle]# swapon /swapfile #enable swap file.
edit /etc/fstab to include:
/swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0 #enable for boot time.
linux@oracle]# cat /proc/swaps or free # check swap size is add or not.

Hi,

For swap space you have to just create swap file ( according requried space ) add to your exisiting swap space.
check my previous post.

During installation it will ask you for NETWORK CONFIGURATION then just give STATIC IP ADDRESS and GATEWAY MASK.
if you are no specify and don't worry ignore during installation after installation you can configure STATIC IP.

forget to say.. some thing for SWAP SPACE.

For swap space. >>> after installation open new terminal login as an root user and follow above procedure.In MY EXAMPLE I ADD 64M.

For STATIC IP.

APPLICATION >>>>> SYSTEM SETTINGS >>> NETWORK >><<EDIT>><<
GIVE STATIC IP ADDRESS AND GATEWAY MASK

I know to create swap space using dd cmd. like dd if/ etc...but i don't know mention bytes in dd cmd like bl=? and count = ?

Hi,
Try below procedure.

#dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1024 count=307200
#mkswap /swapfile
#swapon /swapfile
edit /etc/fstab to include.
/swapfile      swap       swap   defaults

reboot your system.
check 
#cat /proc/swaps or free

Note > system bs = 1024 and you need 300 mb.(300*1024=307200)

Are you having Windows also in your system >> if yes
then what is IP ADDRESS for windows

my example.
i have window and linux on some machine.
MY WINDOWS IP ADDRESS IS 192.168.100.252 (only for example dummy ip)
so you have to give some IP for linux system.
192.168.100.252

or i you have only linux then assign what ever you want ( ip address)

On linux windows
APPLICATION >>>>> SYSTEM SETTINGS >>>> NETWORK <<ENTER>>

On Network windows click on <<edit>> button

On edit windows (radio button for statis ip address )
give your ip address or gateway mask.
>>> close
>>>on again Network Main windows click on <<ACTIVE>> button
and active your services.

and
just check /etc/hosts >>> for hostname.
default line is

127.0.0.1 local_host:local_domain local_host
#here you can assign your COMPUTER name.

mean " Yast -> Network Device -> Network Card -> Change "

here i add two configuration

Name Device IP Address

xx eth0 DHCP

xx ech1 xxx.xxx.xxx.xx (my ip add)

This is correct way ? Sorry i'm in my home i can't mention exactly. But I'm config. the above way..give me ur suggestion.

Hi,
You should try.
because above mention example ( on my previous post) is based on LINUX AS4 and your using SUSE so it is little bit different <i am not using SUSE> so i don't know but concept is come.

you have to configure STATIS IP some as windows.
and
restart services.

Hi,

That is why first you done installation with NETWORK error.
after you done your installation you can configure NETWORK STATIC IP address.

Note : IGNORE THIS ERROR ... during installation time.
