LSNRCTL> start
Starting /oracle/sys/v10/bin/tnslsnr: please wait...
TNSLSNR for IBM/AIX RISC System/6000: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
System parameter file is /oracle/sys/v817/network/admin/listener.ora
Log messages written to /oracle/sys/v10/network/log/listener.log
Listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=linus.braunag.de)(PORT=1521)))
its running 10g LSNRCTL ..but you can see it is trying to get 8i listener.ora.but log file is writing to 10g location .Any idea how to point it to 10g listener file ???

Yes you are correct.see the following ...
oracle@server:/oracle/> . oraenv
ORACLE_SID = [DB10g] ?DB10g -- i set my SID
oracle@server:/oracle/sys/v10> echo $ORACLE_HOME
/oracle/sys/v10 -- Correct
oracle@server:/oracle/sys/v10> echo $ORACLE_SID
DB10g -- Correct
oracle@server:/oracle/sys/v10> echo $TNS_ADMIN
/oracle/sys/v817/network/admin -- INCORRECT .
where can i set it ?any file ?

>>>I think you do not need set TNS_ADMIN unless you are willing to keep the listener.ora in some non-default location
now $TNS_ADMIN is pointing to /oracle/sys/v817/network/admin
but i want it to point to /oracle/sys/v10/network/admin ,
Because i am running 10g listener .
How can i set it.i mean ,it should be automatically set when i use .oraenv to speicify 10g database name .

As per your previous message the ORACLE_HOME points to your Oracle 10g location at present. So you do not need to set TNS_ADMIN environment variable.
Oracle by default will search for the network configuration files in the default location, i.e., $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin.
You simply reset the TNS_ADMIN environment variable and try again. Let me know if the solution worked.

oracle@server:/oracle/sys/v10/network/admin> set $TNS_ADMIN=/oracle/sys/v10/network/admin
oracle@server:/oracle/sys/v10/network/admin> export TNS_ADMIN
oracle@server:/oracle/sys/v10/network/admin> echo $TNS_ADMIN
/oracle/sys/v817/network/admin -- Again shows same 8i value

I donot see an entry for $TNS_ADMIN in /usr/local/bin/oraenv .
it only set ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID .
i wonder then how it is giving 8i TNS_ADMIN value ??is it configured in anyother file ?sorry ,i am new to unix env .

Would advice you to understand about the basics of UNIX first, otherwise it will be very difficult for you to work. It is also very difficult for anyone in this forum to tell you the basics.
Anyways I think the TNS_ADMIN environt variable has been set in your profile file of your shell.
Look into that...
