Hello,
I don't know a great deal about Oracle administration. The extent of my knowledge is basically importing a dump file to a new database. This time, however, I have all of the data files from an Oracle 8 db and not a backup. I'm not sure what the exact version is. We're running 9.2.0.1.0.
How can I load this data into my Oracle instance? Thank you very much for any help, I really appreciate it. I hope you'll pardon my ignorance.
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks for your help. Yes, I mean the database datafiles (USERS01.DBF etc). I wasn't sure if there was a way to restore those files and in the process have it perform an upgrade.
I'll have to see if I can find a machine (and the installer) to put Oracle 8 on.
Thanks again,
Nick

Thanks Mahesh. I did finally find our CD (and cleaned my office in the process). Pardon my ignorance again, but I've got it installed on Windows 2000 Server and the Database Assistant won't open. What could cause this?
Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks again Mahesh, I sincerely appreciate your help. No, I don't get any errors. I think it may have something to do with Java, but if I don't need it then I don't care.
I think I will be able to get the db restored. One more really, really dumb question. What are the default user and password for me to connect to SQL*Plus?

Well, for some reason I can't login. What should my host string be? I'm not sure if I have a database on the server right now, but I have to login to SQL*Plus to restore the db, correct?
Thanks,
Nick
