Hello,

When I try to export from 10.1.0.3 database and import the data into 10.1.0.2 database, I get the error IMP-00010 Invalid headerfile specification. Is it because of the version incompatibility? or some other reason?

Thanks,
Nirav

hi nirav.

IMP-00010 Invalid headerfile specification

bcoz of corrupted export dump file you have to export again and import ur operation.

hope this helps.

Hi ,

Thank you .. I think the export file is not corrupted...when I do the export it says export completed successfully...in case of any corruption ,export will not work right?

and even if I repeat the export , I get the same error..

hi nirav

IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
Cause: Either the file was not generated by Export or it was corrupted.
Action: If the file was indeed generated by Export, report this an Import bug and submit the export file to customer support.

hope this helps

Are NLS settings the same in both databases?

Did you FTP the export file as ASCII (instead of binary)?

Thank you Littlefoot.

Yes I did the binary mode transfer..actually this issue is one of my friends and I do not have the 10g environment. Not sure about nls settings but I guess if they are different then it will be automatically converted right?

One more thing: I just noted that we used the exp and imp commands not the expdp and impdp command..is that fine?

Different NLS settings sometimes cause unexpected behaviour and, as I've read about it, it is suggested that both databases have the same NLS's.

Original export and import utilities ('exp' and 'imp') *should* work; however, Oracle encourages you to use export and import data pump ('expdp' and 'impdp') as they support all 10g features (while 'exp' and 'imp' do not).

Ummm, your subject says export from exporting from 10.1.0.2 , importing into 10.1.0.3, but your first message says the reverse.

Your error message is expected if you are exporting from the 10.1.0.3 database using the export from that version.

You cannot export from a higher version and import into a lower version unless you use the export from the lower version.
