could someone explain to me the purpose of enabling maintenance mode in ADADMIN while applying a patch.

isn't it enough to just stop the application tier services and then run the ADPATCH session(apply the patch),because once the services are down, users logged in and users trying to gain access wont be able to work on applications.

hope i've made my question clear

Looked at some documentation I've got, it states maintenance mode makes Oracle Apps systems accessible only for patching activities. It provides optimal performance for AutoPatch sessions and minimizes downtime.

Maintenance mode is needed for AutoPatch sessions only. Other AD utilities do not require maintenance mode to be enabled.

Hope that helps.

3.) what is a DAD file and its purpose?

4.) what is the location of apache server, forms server discoverer server log files.

5.) while running autoconfig on my appl tier. i got a message - completed with errors check the logfile. when i checked the logfile there are no errors. how do i resolve the prob.
