We have a database in oracle8i with the solaris 5.8 .Our db is of size 125 GB.I used this to find the size of db...
(SELECT SUM(BYTES/1024/1024/1024) FROM SM$TS_USED )..

Now for this db i want to take rman backup.
1)backup of the db will be approx..what size ?
2) We can go for image copy method .or backup command ? (and how the size will affect .. ?)
3) And we want to keep the backup for one day ..?

can some body thro light on this ..?

Thanks in advance.

1. depends on your method of backup (full/incremental)
2. Image copy is just like OS filesytem copy.
3. Look into retention policies.

All information is available in Oracle Documentation.
Look into Oracle 8i docset.
