I don't really myself, but am starting. I'm sure there are plenty of chess sites around, but I just randomly found one a couple of days ago that is very well done and easy to use. I've already challenged a couple of guys in my office. My name is the same there as it is here.

Heh heh.
Just had a mental image I thought I'd share:
IT Professional at a singles party, manages to corrale an attractive blonde in a corner booth and strikes up conversation:
Blonde: So, what do you do.
IT Prof: (forsaking the usual "NASA test pilot" line) I'm an IT Professional.
Blonde: Riiiiiight (looks around for an escape route).
IT Prof: No really. It's not geeky at all. I also contribute to online IT forums in my spare time to help others. It's fun an interesting. (smiles somewhat deperately).
Blonde: (giving benefit of the doubt) So, what else do you do except IT?
IT Prof: I play Chess online......???
The characters depicted above are products of the authors deranged imagination. Any similarity to anyone - living or dead - despite apparent first-hand experience - is coincidental.
Personally, I don't play chess. My wife has been encouraging me to learn, but concedes that I hardly have the time amidst my busy NASA Test Pilot schedule.

Heh...that is pretty funny. If it wasn't so true, I'd be insulted. Good thing we're married and don't have to deal with that sort of thing.
So your wife actually wants you to learn? Does she play? I got my wife to learn and enjoy playing Twisted Metal 2 (a playstation one game), but she won't touch chess with a 10 foot pole. She even bought me an electronic game a while back that I could play against so I'd stop asking her.
The cool thing about this red pawn site is that it is set up to be similar to correspondence type games or mail games. It can be played in real time if both people happen to be there, but more likely you can play a move in the morning, do your work, check back and make a move at lunch, continue working, and make another move the next day. You control the frequency, and can play more than one game at the same time. There would be little chance of me playing otherwise.

I wonder what you were like as a boy. I copied this from a post by Daniel Clamage on the pl/sql pipelines:
Have you heard the joke where a 12 yr old boy catches a frog, which speaks to him. It says, "Kiss me and I'll turn into a beautiful princess". The boy smiles at the frog and pets it. "Kiss me and I'll turn into a beautiful princess, and I'll do *whatever* you want!" The boy smiles and puts the frog into his pocket. The frog, quite upset and frustrated, asks the boy, "Why won't you kiss me?" The boy shrugs and says, "I'm a computer programmer so I don't have time for girls. But a talking frog, now that's COOL!"

I play Kasparov chess.

What is Kasparov Chess? Is it online?
I'm too new to have a real rating yet. Lots of the sites start you at 1200, and then that changes based on how you do.

In Kasparov Chess, you play aganst other folks, and against your own computer. It gives you hints but the hints are not as good as your score goes up. Even wining against a poor apponent lowers your score. I am having problems getting higher than 1151. 117 games won, 4 lost.
Check google for 'kasparov chess'. It is one you purchase but at a very low price.
Neil.
