Hot backup, as usual.
Cold backup could be a little pain. You have to use dd command. I would rather depend on external backup tools to do a cold backup.

for hot backup what should be used in place of cp command. Is it dd. But dd is very very slow. Is there any other way or any method of making dd faster.

For hot backup you do not use cp or dd as-is.
Mount the database in archivelog mode.
Use RMAN preferentially or the the good old 'alter tablespace begin backup ' and use cp.
FOr more details, refer documentation
or
search this site
or
google yourself.
I would rather spend time on RMAN instead of alter tablespace begin backup.
