Typical activities for a functional consultant:
- Analyse functional requirements
- Identify gaps and do the functional design of customisations
- Configuring the system
- Plan and execute the system test
- Plan and execute end-user training
Typical activities for a technical consultant:
- Analyse non-functional requirements (security, availability, performance)
- Do the technical design, build and unit test of customisations and conversion
- Plan and execute the performance test
In reality the boundaries are pretty fluid. A good technical consultant understands the business side, and a good functional consultant knows their way around in TOAD.
