Hi all,

We are planning to upgrade our database from oracle 8.1.7.4 to 10gR2.

But we have a confusion that whether v has to go by

a.Manual Upgrade method or
b.Exp/Imp method.

we feel there are some advantages and disadvantages in both the method.

Our database is dictionary managed tablespace not locally managed tablespace. so we feel whether it will cause fragmentation problems if we go for Manual upgrade method. At the same time we dont have enough space in server to proceed with EXP/IMP method.

The details are below:

Db version: Oracle 8 1 7 4
Operating system: Sun os 5.8 version
Db size : 70 gb
Planned db to upgrade: 10g R2

Pleas explain and suggest which method to proceed further?

Expecting your replies.

Thanks,

Prashanth

Use a share or NFS mount to dump data from database (exp/imp).
70 Gb is not-so-big ( Still export /import method will take some time).
All your options are discussed here

You can use exp/imp upgrade database.
But you notice exp/imp client version.
