TNS-03505:Failed to resolve name [message #175332]

Hi All,

I am able to connect to the oracle database using TOAD, but when I connect it using ODP from the application, getting an err:TNS-03505: Failed to resolve name. Please let me know how to resolve this.

Hi,

We are using Citrix, so I was informed that there is no need of any entry in the tnsnames, Please let me know which network configuration needs to be checked. Should I check the tnsnames.ora file or something else.

The server is located in a remote place. I have dba privilage to the database, how can I fix this error.

I'm sorry, I don't know what "Citrix" is and why Oracle shouldn't have TNSNAMES.ORA (and/or any other congifuration files) if installed on it. I hope you'll get a better answer from other forum members.

For a fuller explanation of 'tnsnames.ora' then search this forum for 'tnsnames'.

I assume that the TOAD about which you talk is on the 'Citrix' box. Please confirm this.

While using citrix, you don't need to configure tnsname.ora file in your clients for citrix.
Citrix is just like accessing the desktop of a remote computer like Remote Desktop in windows XP. If you connect to the server from citrix you work directly on the server from the client so there is no need to configure the tnsnames.ora file.

use
LOCALHOST
instead of <ipaddress>
in TNSNAMES.ORA configuration file
ur prb will solved
we are using CITRIX Server too and doing the same thing

for toad which home is set as toad home can u tell
)

Hello,

There was no entry in tnsnames of the server where the application is running.
Now the problme is fixed. Thanks to every one for the quick responses.
