I am using windows 2000 server and oracle 9.0.1, my database does not start automatically when i am booting the system.

in regedit autostart is there, my service is getting started automatically and i used startmode auto in my oradim command but still i have to manually log in to start the database, PLS help!!!

another issue is that i want to startup/shutdown the database using other than sysdba, pls tell which permission shud i grant as dba, connect, resource permissions are not doing the required job

For 1st question I dont know

but for 2nd I know u need sydba/syoper privileges to start stop databases. DBA role is not for this purpose...

Grant this privilege to any other user and then he can do this database start/stop

You may want to delete your current Windows service and create a new one with ORADIM and then test the startup/shutdown abilities of the service. Also, check the event viewer and see if there are any messages as to why the service isn't starting the database.

folks i got the solution of my own problem.

actually problem was with my spfile so i created spfile from my pfile and now database is automatically up

sorry guys, my problem is still there. i am still not able to open my database automatically.

when i tried create spfile from pfile, it worked but as soon as i restarted the machine database again had to be started manually.

i think i'm using oradim correctly.

oradim -sid hodb -intpwd tac -startmode auto -pfile'e:\oracle\admin\tac\pfile\init.ora'

what is wrong with that???

Try the following.

Goto the window registry...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\HOME0
Check for value for entry
ORA_<SID>_AUTOSTART.

Modify the entry & put the value as TRUE.

it is set to TRUE, my services are getting up automatically, using oradim i gave startmode as auto
