Hi Razz

I am rookie in Oracle 8, when I checked my UNIX only remain 7% storage disk in my machine. I found that the reason is belong too many archive files in Oracle 8. It keeps a lot of *.arc from July 2005 until now . Therefore , I want to delete some archive.arc to free space in unix(purge archive.arc around 3 months ). The Oracle 8 is hotbackup and never shutdown when I get this job until now. So, I would like to know can I directly delete archive.arc in unix machine? I just want make sure everything is safety (I know I have keep recent 3 months for archive.arc file in TAPE) SO,anything I need attention more?

Thanks

It depends on your backup strategy. When did you take the last hot backup??

And one more thing if you have old archive log files on tapes then why do you want to keep a copy on the OS also?

You can remove all the archive files from the OS that are there on tapes.

Hi tarundua

Thanks for teaching, I checked two things.

1) Oracle Enterprize manager - storage manager shows I got archive files from Jul 2005 until now,

2) Unix Platfrom - go into archive directory, It's only show from 20 Feb 2006 to Today's Archive files in directory. (?? where is my previous archive files before 20 Feb 06??)

I have question about why OEM didn't match what I got archive file in same directory? Is there anything my concept is wrong?

The disk Utility is over 92% now, I really need to purge some files for free space.
Pls give a hand! thanks
