Hi,

the questions indicate that you are not very clear about purpose and use of control files. For complete details refer:
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96521/control.htm#5999

To give short answers to your questions:
1.we need more than one control file ,to protect the database..just as we keep more than one key of the locker..if one key is lost , we can use the other one.Same way, more than one control file will help to protect the database, say when one of the control file is corrupted, you can replace it with the other good copy.

2. Minimum one. recommended at least 2.

3. Yes, oracle gurantees it. These are binary files and the all details in it are maintained in it automatically by oracle.
