Multiple Oracle executables and dlls [message #154773]

Oracle server version 9.2.0.1

On a server of mine I have found this:

All executable files and dll’s in the Oracle home\bin directory had 2 further files as per e.g.

Oracle.exe
Oracle.exe.U24567
Oracle.exe.U12117
OCIW32.dll
OCIW32.dll.U24567
OCIW32.dll. U12117

etc ,etc..

All such files are of the same size and modified date as their unmodified/renamed counterparts.I have not encountered this before. Could it may be related to a re-installation of Oracle following an incomplete un-install? Or I thought maybe some kind of backup activity trying a restore without overwrite ?
Anyone seen this before ? I would be v. grateful for advice
