Hi,

I am working on Oracle 8i (8.1.7) on sun solaris with 512MB of RAM size.

After running the server for around 2 - 3 hours, the response time is increasing i.e. the database goes slow

what could be the problem and where to look for the solution.

Start by looking at the OS, look at commands like:

"prstat -a" to identify top resource consumers
"swap -l" to monitor swap space
"vmstat" monitor memory utilization, paging and swapping
Etc.

Best regards.

After doing what frank has suggested ..
check for the wait events in the db and see if there is any process in the db / automated job that is eating up the resouces ..

Also for this kinda problems you should allways mention the Server h/w model, no of cpu's, load observed when the problem happened etc., ..
