Hi to all Gurus...

i have a task ahead of me...
i have a time attendance machine which is connected to com port of my computer. i have windows XP and Forms 6i. i want to read the data through the com port.

i tried to use he MSComm controll to read the data. but its not working. can any one tell me how to read the com port data.

Hi Raja,

Faced a similar problem in Oracle 8. We have some blood-sampling machine, which detects all kinds of things in your blood you even don't want to know about (...).

Our solution was:
A college of mine wrote a Delphi program which read the com ports and put the data in text files.
As we never knew when new data was coming, I wrote an Oracle job that executes every 5 minutes. If the program which was executed by the job detected some new data-files, it read them and put the data in the appropriate way in the db itself.

You could of course use a C program and do all the necessary stuff in it.

Search this forum using 'read the com port data'. Other people have tried to do the same thing. They may be able to help you.

any clue, any idea, any work, related material will be highly appriated.

does this version of forms support javabeans? If so, maybe you can find a free or cheap bean to do the work for you. You will have to write some java to make it into a forms pluggable component (or pay someone for it). but after that it should be piece of cake.

I like to get call log data in a text file from KX-TES824 a PBX machine using com port. I use vb.net. Is any one please help me to solve the problem

Can you read the file on the PBX machine? Maybe issue an ftp command to get the file from the PBX machine to your machine and then process it.
