Hi,
I just installed oracle 10g on my laptop.
When I use the following to login:

login: system
password: using the one I set up during installation
hostname: orcl (global db name: orcl)

It gives me an error.

Sometimes Invalid Login/Password and sometimes connection time out.

Pls tell me how should I login for the first time.
Also, if the login/password/hostname combination I am using is right - Infact what should I give there.

Also, Is there a need to Mount the database (open / shutdown) before using sql plus.

Thanks,
Pavan

it is solved...
the problem was with hostname.

system_name/dbname
should be used as hostname. I was just giving the db name.
Anyways,
Thanks.
