In some situations, such as while creating an index, oracle will do so as a temporary index until it is finished, then rename it to the proper name. But I believe it is only a rename, meaning the segment itself is a perm segment type, but the name has a funky temporary name, if that is what you mean.

Hi,
How bout cases where temporary segment is not available when required?? Can't a permanent tablespace be use at that time?? I have read in OCP study guide(By Biju Thomas)that temporary segments in permanent tablespace are created on the fly and allocation is removed when the transaction completes..(conditions not mentioned)
