Hi,

I wish to know under what circumstances/conditions would the temporary segment be created in permanent tablespaces??

In some situations, such as while creating an index, oracle will do so as a temporary index until it is finished, then rename it to the proper name. But I believe it is only a rename, meaning the segment itself is a perm segment type, but the name has a funky temporary name, if that is what you mean.

Hi,

How bout cases where temporary segment is not available when required?? Can't a permanent tablespace be use at that time?? I have read in OCP study guide(By Biju Thomas)that temporary segments in permanent tablespace are created on the fly and allocation is removed when the transaction completes..(conditions not mentioned)

Sounds like what you are describing is the same as what I was talking about right above.

But oracle isn't going to use a perm tablespace for standard temp space type activities such as sorting.
