ORA-00205 error, when installing oracle10g on linux [message #148683]

i want to install oracle 10g on linux

i want to know where the control files are located.

i am getting the error ora-00205..

can anyone tell me where the control files are actually

located.

which flavour of linux and version are you talking about?

Post the complete error message and what you did.

It is your database.
CONTROL_FILES parameter in init< yoursid >.ora will help you.

enterprise 3.0

there are two files control1 and control2, but they are not

being recognized, shall i recreate?

You mean RedHat Enterprise 3.0?

On contrary, you seem to be having issues with creating a database or with a database been already created.
Look into CONTROL_FILES in initsid.ora.
or
YOu must be creating the seed database as part of oracle installation.

I very well understand the meaning of ora-000205 error.
Question is when is this happening?
If this a prexisting database, restore from backup.
If you are starting the database make sure you are using the correct initsid.ora and the files have corect entries.
If this is new database, startover. it is easy.
