Has anyone used the DBUA(Database upgrade assistant)?
Does it really work as advertised in the manual?

I am going to try it on our test database first but if anyone has any tips I am happy to listen.

We are moving from Enterprise Edition 10.1.0.2 to 10.2.0.1 on a Solaris 9 64 bit.

We have been using Oracle since version 7.1 but I allways created a new database and imported data into it. We don't have that option now.

export/import will work only if you are using plain/straight forward data.
If you had been using intermedia text or any of those options, export / import may not work properly. The most recomended method is to go through the proper channel (upgrade assistent or manual scripts).
See the upgrade documents for the version. Usually all the available methods for upgrade/migration is always documented in the corresponding release of the document.

Okay, thanks. I read all the DBUA documentation and determined the Database Upgrade Assistant is the best way for us to upgrade. I just hope it works as well as it says in the manual.

I am going to try it on test next week. We are still resting because of a 3 day, 20 hours per day, project that did 1.2 billion I/O's and affected 38 external datasources (filemaker, Access, ldap, email, ...).

Thanks,
Neil.
