Hi,

We have an oracle 8i Database.

Is it possible to take a cold backup of Database and restore in a 9i server (unix platform)

Suppose if i am taking a hotbackup , can i be able to apply the archived logs in the same scenario.(8i to 9i)

No! You need to upgrade the database first. If you don't want to, install Oracle 8i on the target server before you restore the 8i DB to it.

Best regards.

Do you have the option of doing an export from 8i and an import into 9i? Take care of invalid objects before you export. Set ignore create errors = yes on import.
