Hi I had a database up and running in single user
environment . I shutdown the database with the
shutdown option.

I did not do any shutdown immediate or shutdown abort.
It has stuck for ever. I believe it has some uncommitted
transaction.

Now i guess with that the database would never shutdown.
I can't log onto the database by opening another session
as it says database shutdown in progress.

What should i do??

Thanks,
Nitin

Didnt mention the OS version,

if using Windows ---

Close window service related to oracle and start again ,
then try to start the database.

if using *Unix --

kill all the processes related to Oracle and then try to start again.

hi,

hai tarun ... tell nitin to restart his xp machine on which oracle database is present ... i think he is very new to oracle database.... as he had killed process of oracle from his machine .. It will be better for him to restart his xp machine on which database is present.. and after restart of machine if his service is not started (i.e. it is not in automatic mode) then nitin has to start the service related to his database from his control pannel.

Regards
Always Friend Sunilkumar
