Here while logging to SQL i got an error like this

ora-01033 initialization or shutdown in progress

How to rectify this kind of problems

Restart the machine and then try to login, if the problem still persist then post again.

But the same problem raises even after restarting the system.

please do mention the OS version and Oracle version in the very first post.

Anyways remember this from the next time.

answer some questions ;

1. Both OS and Oracle details

2. Through which user you are trying to login.

1) OS:Windows 2000 server
Oracle:8.1.6

2) User : System/manager

Try this,

1. Login as "internal"

2. Shutdown the database

3. close the windows service for the database

4. restart the windows service

5. login as "internal" and startup the database.

6. then try to connect as system

I never used 8i but i know that "internal" works as a sysdba user. anyways, good luck.

Also, do check alert log to identify whats the last step that occurred during startup of database.
