We are currently trying to delete a database using Database Configuration Assistant, Oracle 8. It asks for the internal password - which I don't have access to. I have tried the usual "oracle" but this doesn't work.

To make things more difficult, we no longer can access the database with sysdba privileges and the database is in shutdown mode, so I can't try to reset the password.

Is there any way to go around this?

Thanks in advance

If you don't have anything else oracle on your system that you want to keep, you can (after double checking this is ok) just uninstall the oracle software, delete all the files from the system, and clean out all registry entries. Then install 10gR2.

Hi

The default password for internal is "oracle". Try with that. You may get lucky.

hi,
do one thing rename the password file for the database ... that means ur database is crashed as it will not get password file to do authentication .... as u told earlier that ur database is in shutdown mode ... so now you recreate password file for the database and then try to connect to that database ...Smile

Note :- I assume that u had access to the server as root user (ie. on linux, unix o/s) or if your database is on windows then u you had admin right on it.

regards

You cant edit the existing password file,

create a new password file using ORAPWD utility,

Read this

Quote:

Log in as the Oracle software owner

it means you login to the server from the same user from which you installed Oracle on your system i.e. talking about OS user not sysdba.
