Hi,

I have a Oracle exported .dmp file. Is it possible to know from that file that from which version of Oracle (Oracle 8 or 8i or 9i) the dump file has been generated??

Thanks in advance...

Avra

A wild guess,
When i opened an exp dump file in an editor , i got this

 ²EXPORT:V09.02.00
URAJESH
RUSERS
2048
0
20

I exported it from Version 9.2.0 and the user was RAJESH.
And you can interpret that from the above two lines.

Try this meanwhile you get a perfect reply.

regards,
tarun

Never edit the dump file!.
It is an oracle proprietory binary file.
Any other editor may corrupt the dump file and you loose your oracle support.
use show=y to see the contents of the file you get the header information as shown
------------------------------------
oracle@mutation#imp scott/tiger fromuser=somejunkuser touser=anotherjunkuser file=scott1.dmp show=y

Import: Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on Fri Sep 30 09:40:27 2005

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

Connected to: Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production

Export file created by EXPORT:V09.02.00 via conventional path
import done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
-------------------------------------------

i am not very sure about this.
It does say, exported using 9.2 exp tool.
But doesnt say the version of the database that it exported.
I will check on this and keep you posted.
