Hey,

When I try to create a database using the DBCA, it complains when it gets to the 90% marker, that a database with that name already exists?

Despite blowing away the $ORACLE_HOME and oratab entries, as well as all references to the old database name in /dbs and tnsnames.ora and parameter file, it still will not let me create a db with the same name Sad

Has anyone please got any ideas how/where the DBCA is keeping hold of this historical info which is preventing me creating a database with a previously used name.

Many thanks in advance,
Jules

hi,

I think it is not possible that what you are trying that Data base with same name on one machine
now suppose if you have database with same name ... in windows environment then the servie name will be named as
oracleservice+sid so both the sid name will be same and if u will try to start the db then there will be conflict .

well i had never tiried this may be you can create ...but franlky speaking this is not a good idea having 2 database on one machince with same name. It wil be difficult to manage the database with same name on one Machine coz there will be always confusion.
