While I agree with Art Metzer's statement that for all practical purposes, the importance of FND in terms of Application Object Lbrary, is probably more important, I however wish to add my two cents on the schema itself. If you notice.. FND is not a schema in the oracle database, all the FND related objects are stored in the schema called APPLSYS.
My take too is that they meant to call it FouNDation.
