Mad
Hi,

I receive error Oracle not available when i try to login after i restart the server machine. Rememeber I installed oracle8i on windows xp pro and also connected to it using sys and other accounts. But when i restart it the instance does not start.
I am working in a windows domain. furthermore if a specify a valid user name and password in logon option for service (control panel) the service does start automatically at startup.
I just want to know if there is a another solution to it???

thx

I assume you have a valid reason for being on such an old database. Have you checked in the windows services window that the service is marked as startup type automatic? You can also use the oradim command to set service options (at least in later versions, don't know about 8i).

I have similar problem with EM on WinXP - Ora 10.1.0.4. Although it is configured to start automatically in the services, it never starts if I do not start it manually...
I tried so many things - right now it's in the start up folder.
It's on one single test server. I cannot see any config changes between this machine and all the others. Could not figure out why???
Any ideas what I may check for the proper configuration?
Thanks a lot,mj

serach in registry of system. Check for values: ora_<sidname>_autostart & ora_<sidname>_shutdown keys under head hkey_local_machine/software/oracle/homeN

If value is true, then the moment you are starting/shutting down service using oradim your database will start/shutdown alongwith it. Otherwise you need to manually do this startup/shutdown of database.

All the params you mentioned are set correctly in the reg.
And EM still cannot start automatically on this machine...
May be I do not start the database correctly!!!
It's a pain to do it manualy every time you close the laptop...
Thanks for the tip.mj

hi
if you are using windows xp run command msconfig
go to general tab. and click default options.
check in startup tab that oracle service is there.
check in service tab that all ur oracle listeners and services are persent and the are marked.

try this

Hi

thnx to smartin/mjschwenger/girish.rohini/& kirdha1

Let me add something to my previous message, this problem comes with oracle8i/ 9i/ 10g as I am using them all. and the service starts automatically if i take the system out of windows domain i.e. put it on a workgroup or make it a standalone pc.
anyways I thank you all for taking time and writing to me.
still I will try what u hav suggested though I have gone thru registry and oradim things before.

Rgrds,
Abid
