I have a Oracle 8.1.7.0 server on Windows 2000 Server. Problem with this server is that for the last two weeks, it has had random reboots. Has never happened before. I'm inclined to believe it's a system problem but I'd just like to be sure that it's not due to Oracle. The alert logs don't throw up anything. What steps can I undertake to further analyse the problem?

TIA

Check your system for viruses. & also check system logs.
As for Oracle causing reboot, I have never encountered this & think Oracle never cause server reboots..

Server is clean as a whistle - no virus, spyware, nothing. Updated to latest hotfixes. Could the server be brought down by some application which connected to the Oracle database?

Might be. Check for the Startup & Recovery settings in System Properties.

There's nothing to gather from the System Properties page. Plus, don't have any means of intepreting the mini dumps....

If you have the History of load on the server ...check what was the load on the server when it was crashed .. I faced this issue sometime back on windows box wherein it was used to crash when the load goes high ..
