Hello,
I'm looking at the Buffer Cache and would like to use virtual table x$kcbrbh to estimate the performance of a larger cache. I see this is controlled by parameter db_block_lru_extended_statistics.
I know the default value is 0, but I've checked init.ora file and v$parameter and it's not even listed. So, is it set at all? If so, I'm presuming it's zero. What about other parameters? If they do not exist, does it take a default value or must you ignore it completely???
Kinds regards
Lee

Hi smartin,
I'm using Oracle 8.1.7. Is there a buffer cache advisor on this version of Oracle? My research indicated it is only available from Oracle 9i onwards.

Yeah, I think it is a 9i thing and up. 10gR1 completely automates it so you can just set sga_target and be done with it. When do you plan to upgrade, 10gR2 started coming out yesterday, which puts you 4 releases behind. Missing out on a lot of new functionality and ease of use.
