Someone told me something about a compatible parameter
I can't find a lot on the topic on the internet about how to do etc. Anyone know where to find a good HOW TO and everything about it?
I had the following idea. At the moment we are working with Oracle 8.1.7. We want to upgrade to 10g but the application isn't compatible with this version. It is with 9.2.
So is it possible to do a clean installation of 10 and then make it run in compatible mode for oracle 9.2 so he application will work? If they finally make the application compatible I can easely change the compatible mode back to 10. Is this an idea or not?
Thanks for thinking with me

Look in the Oracle Reference Book (REF, not SQL Ref), which lists all parameters. Also Chapter 5 of the 10g Database Upgrade guide for more information which has a whole section on it. Also, while it does sound like a workable plan, I would test test test and test again before going live.

I read the articles and i got the feeling that the only time you can set this parameter is at installation time in an upgrade process because if you start a new installation you don't have this option.
I will be giving it a try next week with a new installation and then try to alter the parameter.
If you have any info or remarks please do. I will report back to you next week anyway.
